How to have a photo of your lost pet placed on our Lost Pet page. |
We are terribly sorry to hear that you have lost your pet. We have a page that provides a checklist of things to do when you have lost a pet. Just click here on Lost Pet Checklist and it will take you to the Checklist. There is a link there that will bring you right back here.
The easiest way to have a photo of your pet placed on our Lost Pet page is to send us an e-mail with the following information and attach a digital photo of your pet. If you do not have a digital photo then you can have your photo scanned into a computer and a digital photo created. There are many businesses, such as Photo shops, quick print shops, etc., that will perform this service for you for a nominal fee. We require that the digital photo be provided in the Joint Photographic Experts Group industry standard format which has a filename extension of .jpg and it should not be larger than 1 megabyte.
Please provide the following information with the photo;
Your name, mailing address, home and work phones, date the pet was lost, approximate location where it was lost, identifying features of the pet, the pet's name, gender and any other information that you think will be helpful.
We post lost pets on our Lost Pets web page after a waiting period. We do this for the same reason that most law enforcement agencies take the information on missing adult persons but do not necessarily deploy a search until after a reasonable period of time for the missing person to show up or call in. A huge percentage of lost pets are found or returned within a short period and we found ourselves adding postings and then a few minutes or hours later having to delete the same posting as the pet had been located. This takes up a considerable amount of time and effort that we feel is better spent on posting found pet information and photos. That is the name of our organization and web site as we feel that truly nothing is going to be happening until someone, somewhere, has found the pet. You will notice that emphasis throughout the website. For more elaboration on the Found-Pets.org philosophy regarding lost and found pets please go to http://www.found-pets.org/philosophy.html We have been maintaining the website for over 11 years and have re-united more than 4,000 found pets to their lost owners and almost all of them have been the result of the found pet listings. We will be posting your pet’s photo and information soon and hope you understand the reasons for this policy. In the meantime please also check out our "What to do if you have lost a pet." page at http://www.found-pets.org/todolost.html , if you have not yet already done so.We will post the photo for 90 days unless we hear from you that you have found the pet or would like to extend the time period. There is no charge for this service however, if you like what we are doing and would like to help us to continue to provide this service you might want to consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Found! - In Time, a non-profit corporation with 501 (c) (3) tax-deductible status.
